.
A pre-season friendly with meaning

.
Nakhon Ratchasima F.C will officially launch their 2012 season on Saturday when they line up against Muangthong United in a prestigious pre-season friendly. That fact alone is notable: Korat have never 'launched' a season before; there just hasn't been enough interest in the past. Low-key pre-season friendlies were played and then the season would quietly get underway.

Tomorrow, however, as many as ten thousand fans will pay to watch a pre-season friendly. They will be introduced to the 2012 squad, including around fifteen new signings; and the new shirt, and other new merchandise, will be on sale before the start of the league season – another first.

On the pitch, the 2009 and 2010 Thai Premier League champions will provide stiff opposition for the team.
.
There was a gulf in class when Chonburi cruised to a 3-0 win a few weeks ago; there's every chance of a similar result tomorrow. Fans should bear in mind that Korat are targetting a mid-table finish in Division 1 this season; Muangthong are targetting a third Thai Premier League title. Muangthong's players have a new coach to impress, too. Serbian Slaviša Jokanović replaced the Blackpool-via-India bound Robbie Fowler just last weekend.
 .
Of course, Anon Sangsanoi, still contracted to Muangthong, will line up for his loan club Korat and would surely love to find the back of the net to let his employers know what they're missing.

But amid all the excitement and razzmatazz of the occasion, it shouldn't be forgotten that the game is also a testimonial match. Two remarkable players – dedicated, honest, fair and sporting – are calling time on their Korat careers. Both joined the club at its formation in the 1999-2000 season.
.
Pratheep has been here for every season whilst Kitti had one season at Chaiyaphum in 2010 before returning for a glorious swansong in 2011. Stand up and applaud them when the time comes; it's the least they deserve.

ROBBIE FOWLER VAI SEGUINDO A SUA TRISTE SINA DE CANSADO...!!!

Robbie Fowler

Robbie Fowler hoping to earn Blackpool contract

Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler is training at Blackpool with a view to signing until the end of the season.
After approaching Tangerines boss Ian Holloway this week, the 36-year-old ex-England international could make his debut on Friday night against Hull.
Fowler is vying for a place with Kevin Phillips, 38, and Brett Ormerod, 35.
"People might say that's another older player but it's about the balance between the young and the old," boss Ian Holloway told BBC Radio Lancashire.
"Players like Kevin Phillips, Keith Southern [who is 30] and Brett Ormerod keep the young ones going and show them how to do it.

Ian Holloway Blackpool manager
"Robbie's just another one of those. Has he got some quality, and can he play a pass and can he score a goal?
"Yes he can, so it may sound outrageous to some people, but not to me."
Fowler is the fourth highest scorer in Premier League history with 163 goals, but failed to add to that in his last brief experience of top-flight football three seasons ago.
In a three-month stay with Paul Ince's Blackburn Rovers in the autumn of 2008, Fowler failed to find the net in six appearances on a pay-per-play deal.
But he was more successful the previous season at Championship level with Cardiff City, for whom he netted six goals in 16 appearances, enjoying a successful partnership with fellow veteran Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.
After leaving Blackburn, he departed British football to play in Australia, first with North Queensland Fury before a season at Perth Glory, followed by a move last year to Thailand to play for Muangthong United.
Fowler had previously been linked to India's new Premier Soccer League - but that has since been postponed.

NOTÍCIAS DE FUTEBOL DA TAILÂNDIA - MUANGTHONG UNITED

Muang Thong: fundament for a bright future?

News Thai Premier League

Over the last weeks, Muang Thong throw the points for what the club hopes, could led them to a glory future. With SCG a new sponsor contract was signed and with the Serbian Slaviša Jokanović a new head coach have been appointed.

Probably a lot of activity must was going on at Muang Thong recently. At first a partnership with SCG was sealed in a press conference on 16 February, and on Monday of this week Slaviša Jokanović has been introduced as successor to Robbie Fowler. The Englishman had left the TPL club in January. Milan Josic, assistant coach, took over interim, just to jump ships short time later and sign with Phuket FC.

Already in the year before, preparation for the new season ran anything but optimally. Carlos de Carvalho followed on sacked René Desaeyere in January 2011, just to get replaced by Henrique Calisto in February. Now and this year it is on Slaviša Jokanović to wield the scepter and prepare the team for a new season. He immediately started his charge this Monday right after a press conference when he led a first training session. The Serbian landed on Sunday morning in Bangkok and went straight on to contract negotiations. Beside Jokanović, Bruno Metsu (Al-Gharafa) and Dragan Talajić (Kuwait SC) have been in the rumor mill to become MTU's new head coach.

The "new" man on Thailand's hottest seat is just 43 years old. Among the rest, during his active career he played for Chelsea London, La Coruna and not least Tenerife. There he played two years under German Jupp Heynckes, currently coaching Bayern Munich. From 2007 to 2009 Partizan Belgrade have been his first and last station as coach. In two consecutive years he lead the "black-and-white" to a back-to-back double, winning domestic cup and league competition. In September, 2009 he left the office, after he could not guide his eleven to Champions League group stage.

Closely related with the precipitous promotion Muang Thong took during the last years are Yamaha. The Japanese manufacturer was already a premium sponsor of the club when the side still played football in Thailand's second division. However, since 16 February this is now officially a part of the clubs history. Because Thai cement manufacturer SCG (Siam Cement Group), owning brands like idea, Cotto or Home Mart is going to take over this role for the coming five years. Not only this. For the proud sum of 600 million Baht, SCG not only secured itself a 30 percent stake in the club, but also the name rights in the stadium and a place in the club name.

Naturally Muang Thong is still in the hand of Siam Sport. However, only the sales of Robert Procureur's stake, made a 30 percent share for SCG possible. But the Belgian was the main force behind the Cinderella story of "Muang Thong". Under his management the club moved from a third division side to a two time domestic champion. RP now just has left the club looking for new challenges with league rival BEC-Tero Sasana in a function as sport director.

With the SCG deal, the champion of 2009 and 2010, once more has expressed his desire to become one top address in Asia. One heard almost the same words, nevertheless, at the beginning of last year, after the dismissal of Desaeyere, with the signing of Calisto and Fowler (as  players coach). For the rest, Buriram United pursues similar targets, with Attaphol Buspakom in charge. He is Thailand's most successful coach of the last ten years. He was sacked by Muang Thong in 2009 after winning the first TPL trophy for the club as one strove for higher. An irony of fate?

ANDRÉ VILLAS-BOAS SOB O TEMOR DE SER DESPEDIDO DO CHELSEA

André Villas-Boas admitiu temores do machado de Romam Abromovich
.
Por Mark Irwin - The Sun
.

NEWS FROM MUANTHONG UNITED . 27.02.2012

Posted: 27 Feb 2012 02:11 AM PST
We now have a very strong, creative and attacking midfield. In Teerasil and Christian I maintain we have two of the best forwards playing in SE Asia, if not all Asia. In Kone we have powerful backup. At the back we have the best goalkeeper in Asia. When our next CB arrives, we'll have a strong defence. And now we can introduce Slaviša Jokanović, a manager with class.

Muangthong United are looking strong and motivated again. SCB are the ideal company to back and hold a stake in MTU, not just because of their financial clout but because they have a reputation for stable and sensible management. The negativity of last season can hopefully be put behind us now Fowler is gone and the new coach should be given a chance.

Almost everything is in place. Now we just have to work together and give the new man a chance.

India's new football league indefinitely postponed

| Comments | TrackBacks

No danger of Robbie Fowler doing this in the new India league where the pitches have no grass and no lines
.
Looks like Fabio Cannavaro, Hernan Crespo, Robbie Fowler, and Roberto Pires will have to wait for another payday as the newly formed Premier Soccer League that was supposed to start on March 24th and go on till May 6th in the state of West Bengal has been indefinitely postponed
.
Originally, the tournament dates were Feb 25th to March 8th but the pitches were unsurprisingly not ready.

The league has run into a number of problems including the All India Football Federation, the apex body stating the 6 teams could not pick any Indian U21 player as this was essentially a state level tournament.
.
The AIFF also temporarily declared the transfer of international players null and void under FIFA rules as the organizers, the Indian Football Association failed to affiliate their teams with the national body.
.
And things came to a head when the state government failed to release the public grounds as they wanted more clarity from the organizers source of funding and their financial state.
.
These problems should never have arisen if the IFA and the Celebrity Management Group (CMG), the company conceptualizing the league had done their homework right. Strange given the IFA is the oldest association for that sport in the country and it could not even get their own state government to agree to release the grounds.
.
Robbie Fowler is not holding his breath and given the nature of the problems, this league appears to be a non-starter. Someone's got major egg on their faces.

STAVISA JOKANOVIC O NOVO TREINADOR DO MUANGTHONG UNITED?

Especulação está surgindo através da internet que Slaviša Jokanović será apresentado MTU treinador do MTU nas próximas 48 horas. Ele levou Belgrado Partisan a sua dobradinha em 2008.
